About the Artist

The things that interest me aren’t representational, they are emotional and universal. I love to play with space and textures, and layers. The designer in me sees the balance of composition, color, shape, and scale. I am fascinated by the primitive and infinite beauty of how I imagine space to be beyond our own environment. It is bigger than I am, bigger than we are.
The paintings of American artist Richard Glick reflect the changes he has gone through in his life. A journey through past and present, each painting is an experience that takes time, and it is created in stages. Glick adds and deletes elements as he paints and often returns to old paintings to recreate and reinvent them. He never really sees a painting as finished.

Created with acrylics, spray paints, inks, and stencils, Glick’s work evokes the grandeur of the cosmos, featuring textured forms reminiscent of planets, stars, and moons. These tactile works on canvas and even old, discarded CDs reflect Glick’s personal struggle with technology, bridging the gap between digital disconnection and the awe-inspiring beauty of space. Here one can imagine an extra-planetary Elsewhere.

Several of Glick’s paintings are named with the word “Blocked” in the title, something he thinks about often. But the realities of a canvas—its edges, lines, and borders—serve as a metaphor for the boundaries that he places on himself. The adding and removing of layers of paint speak to his desire to hide from the unknown. Despite its initial hesitancy, his work is in a constant state of flux. Breaking free of its literal and metaphorical boundaries, it ultimately shows an excitement about the world outside our control.

Glick’s work is in homes and businesses in Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Palm Springs, New York City, San Francisco, Phoenix, East Hampton, Paris, and Washington D.C.

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University. He has studied at Accademia di Belle Arti di Arti di Perugia, Italy, and Cité International Universitaire in Paris. Glick’s university courses concluded with a contemporary painting independent study group in New York City, as well as in junior management at a major Fifth Avenue retailer.

Glick just finished a residency at the acclaimed Vermont Studio Center, Johnson VT, August 2026. His work has been exhibited in notable galleries and he has participated in art fairs such as Scope Miami, Affordable Art Fair, New York City, Superfine, Brooklyn, New York. Education:
